Your Doubtful Sound overnight Cruise starts from Manapouri Day 1 departing at 0930. From here you are transported across the beautiful Lake Manapouri by launch to the western shores. On arrival you are met by your coach driver for the journey over the Wilmot Pass to board your vessel TUTOKO II; your home for the next 22 hours.
As you board TUTOKO II your friendly crew will welcome you with a glass of bubbly to set the mood. The captain then gives a brief welcoming speach before you head off to take in the majesty of this awesome World Heritage area.
As you cruise amongst breath-taking mountain vistas your captain will give an informative and entertaining commentary on the area, its’ history and how Fiordland was formed. the crew will prepare a hearty lunch of creamy seafood pasta to whet the appetite. The meals will be a memorable part of this journey with plenty of local fare being collected for the table. You will get the chance to fish for your dinner whilst the crew harvest lobster for the plate.
During the cruise you will visit the seal colony out at the entrance, view Tawaki (in season) at their nests and see playful bottle-nose dolphins as they ride the bow; enjoying surfing along for a free ride.
In the evening whilst the crew prepare dinner you can go for a kayak and enjoy an up-close personal experience with no-one to bother you and at your own pace. Or you can watch from the top deck with a nice wine and a book; a great way to relax before dinner.
Dinner… more like a feast really with the days catch supplementing the meal. Fresh lobster and your fish are on the menu, along with a hearty soup and superb wonderful desert. Four wholesome courses to ensure your appetite is satiated.
A few drinks with new friends, some enchanting conversation and Day 1 is coming to a close. Perhaps a cuppa and home made shortbread before retiring to your quiet and comfortable cabin for a great nights rest.
The next morning we’re off early, taking in the amazing scenery whilst the crew prepare a full and hearty cooked breakfast. Dining amongst this spectacular backdrop is memorable in itself.
All too soon the wharf looms and your on your way back over the pass to meet the ferry across Lake Manapouri. But not before you’ve swapped email addresses and noted your new friends contacts.
