The Helipad

With her own helipad, the ease of flying between civilisation and the vessel means we can be in any fiord you desire. Arrive in style — the ultimate cinematic entrance.

Space Aplenty

With a large open top deck there is plenty of room for all to enjoy their own space as the scenery goes by. Never crowded. Always intimate.

Kayaking & Scuba Diving

Throughout the fiords, experienced divers can partake in some outstanding underwater scenery on a multi-day charter. 8 kayaks and full dive compressor onboard.

The Dining Area

Full-size windows and a great atmosphere mean you won't miss the amazing scenery and wildlife whilst dining. Your chef prepares the freshest seafood — often the day's catch.

Twelve Guests.
Three Crew. One Fiord.

Twelve guests is a deliberate choice. It's the number that allows your crew to know your name, cook around your preferences, and make space for the moments that matter — without a speaker announcement or a queue for the rail.

Your Crew Knows You

Three crew, twelve guests. Your skipper, chef, and deckhand genuinely get to know every person on board. Special occasion? Dietary needs? Sorted before you arrive. This is the difference between hospitality and service.

No Queue for the View

When the waterfall comes into view, or the fur seals appear on the rocks, everyone sees it together from the rail. No waiting, no shuffling past strangers. The fiord feels essentially yours for the night.

25+ Years of Local Knowledge

Our crew knows where the crayfish pots will be full tomorrow. Which arm of the fiord gives the clearest stars. They know Doubtful Sound the way a local knows their neighbourhood — because they do.

MV Tutoko — Expedition

The Original Expedition Workhorse

The Tutoko, our original vessel, is a 16m small ship with 8 guest berths — perfect for small groups of friends or the family.

Well laid out with two toilets, one shower, and a spacious lounge and seating area offering exceptional viewing from within. Kayaks for exploring, a dive compressor for scuba operations, and a selection of fishing equipment for catching an evening meal — all onboard.

The onboard diesel stove keeps the vessel warm and comfortable throughout the coldest months of the year.

MV Tutoko is the dedicated expedition vessel. For trophy fishing, deer or tahr hunting, and Fiordland dive charters, see our Anglers & Hunters page.

This little ship accommodates 8 clients in a very spacious and comfortable lounge. There is always a hot cuppa to be had — and always someone to share a story with.

Scuba Diving

This unique environment has evolved many different underwater life forms over millions of years of creation. Fiordland's underwater world is unlike anywhere else on the planet.

Fishing

Revered for its fishing, Fiordland houses blue cod, hapuka, bluenose, bluefin tuna and kingfish, trumpeter, tarakihi and gurnard. Expert local knowledge makes the difference.

Hunting

Red deer hunting adds a gentleman's sport to the mighty hills of Fiordland. Hunters flock to the area every year — our crew know where the trophy animals run.

What a Day Aboard Looks Like

The Catch

Guests pull their own pots. Doubtful Sound crayfish, on the table by dark.

Inside the Dining Room

Evenings on Tutoko II. Wine, dinner, the day shared with whoever else is aboard.

Blue Cod

Fiordland's signature catch. You catch it, the chef plates it by sundown.

The Line Goes Down

Doubtful Sound is deep. Drop a line in the late light, see what's down there.

The Pots

Set in the afternoon, pulled the next morning. Crayfish, fresh from the fjord.

Golden Hour

Day boats are gone by 4pm. The fjord turns gold, and there's no one else around.

What Guests Say
After the Trip

"We also did Milford Sound and this was much better. Not because Milford isn't incredible — it is. But Doubtful got under our skin in a way that's hard to explain."

Roger H. — Indianapolis  ·  TripAdvisor ★★★★★ · March 2026

"The crew made us feel like we had the whole fiord to ourselves — because essentially, we did. No lining up for a photo spot. No announcements over a speaker. Just the sound of the water."

Alison W.  ·  TripAdvisor ★★★★★ · March 2026

"This was an unforgettable adventure. From hundreds of roaring waterfalls to dolphins, penguins and seals. If you are questioning this experience, don't — just book it."

Eight Guests.
Two Crew Who Know Every Rock.

Eight is the number that makes a charter feel like a private expedition. Small enough that your skipper and guide know exactly what you're after — and experienced enough in these waters to deliver it.

Built Around Your Mission

Whether you're targeting blue cod, diving black coral forests, or heading into the back country for deer, MV Tutoko is set up for serious expeditions. Your crew has done it all — and they tailor the trip around exactly what you're after.

Local Knowledge, Deep

Our crew has spent decades on these fiords and rivers. They know the tides, the holding spots, the dive sites that don't appear on any map, and the anchorages that shelter even in a southerly. That knowledge is yours for the duration of the charter.

Fully Equipped, Fully Yours

Full dive compressor, fishing gear, kayaks, game handling and cold storage. MV Tutoko carries what a serious expedition needs — and with eight guests, there's room to move, work, and return with something worth talking about.
