- Dietary requirements, allergies, and any medical or accessibility information you choose to share

- Booking and payment information (note: payment card details are processed by our third-party booking provider, not collected or stored by FEL on our own systems)

- FareHarbor, our booking system provider, when you make a booking

- To communicate with you about your booking, including pre-trip information and operational changes

- To comply with safety, regulatory and legal obligations, including manifest records required by the Department of Conservation, Maritime New Zealand, and emergency services
- To send you marketing communications, where you have opted in (you can opt out at any time)
- To analyse and improve our website, content, and services
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues or fraudulent activity
5. How we share your information
We share personal information with:
- FareHarbor, our booking system provider, who processes booking and payment information on our behalf
- Payment processors, for processing credit card and other payment transactions
- Google, through Google Analytics 4 for website usage analytics and Google Ads for advertising performance measurement, where you have not opted out of relevant cookies
- Email service providers, for the delivery of transactional and marketing emails
- Cloudinary, our image hosting provider (image content delivery only — does not involve personal information about visitors)
- Government authorities and regulators, where required by law or for safety purposes (for example, passenger manifest information shared with the Department of Conservation in connection with our concession AUTH-20202007)
- Professional advisors, including our lawyers, accountants, and insurers, where reasonably necessary
- A successor in business, in the event of a sale or restructure
We do not sell your personal information.
6. International data transfers
Some of our service providers (including Google, FareHarbor, and Cloudinary) are based outside New Zealand. When your information is transferred to and processed in other countries, we take steps to ensure it is protected to a standard comparable to New Zealand law, including through contractual safeguards.
For visitors from the European Union or United Kingdom, international transfers occur on the basis of appropriate safeguards under the GDPR, including standard contractual clauses where required.

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to:

8. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy, or as required by law:
- Booking records and customer information: 7 years from the date of the booking, in line with the requirements of the Inland Revenue Department for accounting records.
- Accounting and financial records: 7 years, as required by the Inland Revenue Department.
- DOC manifest records: retained for the period required by our Department of Conservation concession (currently AUTH-20202007), and any subsequent permits.
- Marketing and newsletter subscriptions: retained until you unsubscribe, or for 36 months following your last interaction with us, whichever comes first.
- Website analytics data: 24 months.
- Booking enquiries that do not result in a confirmed booking: 24 months.
We may retain certain information for longer periods where required by law, or to defend legal claims.
9. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time
If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, under the GDPR you also have the right to:
- Request erasure of your personal information ("right to be forgotten")
- Request restriction of processing
- Request data portability
- Object to processing for direct marketing
- Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

In the event of a notifiable privacy breach, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required under the Privacy Act 2020.
11. Children's privacy
Our services are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 without parental or guardian consent.
Where a guest is under 16 (for example, travelling as part of a family booking), we collect only the information necessary for safety, accessibility, and dietary purposes, and we treat it with appropriate care.
